Now the Real Work Begins

First of all, thank you to everyone who made it possible for me to once again have the honor to represent the people of the First Congressional District in the United States Congress.  I will do everything humanly possible to live up to the confidence you have placed in me.

Now the real work begins.  And our priorities, in my view, should be getting the economy moving again and getting Americans back to work; reigning in the out-of-control Washington spending; and putting the brakes on Obamacare.

However, it’s important that we recognize from the start what the lay of the land is.  Yes, Republicans took over the House and John Boehner is likely to replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House (Hallelujah), but the Democrats kept control of the Senate and Barack Obama is still President of the United States (at least for the next two years.)  And of course we still have the liberal mainstream press who will be interpreting for the American people what is happening in Washington; and if experience tells us anything, it will be Republicans in the House who are the bad guys.

Therefore, we must not fall into the trap of over-promising and under-delivering.  We must be realistic and principled, keep open lines of communication with the American people, and if it’s not in the United States Constitution, don’t do it.

We’ll have our ups and downs over the next two years, but it’s critical that we get it right this time.  The stakes are high, the challenges are great, we must not fail.  The futures of our children and our grandchildren are in the balance, and we must not let politics get in the way of getting this country back on the right track.  Together, let’s fight the good fight.  I’m counting on you to stay involved, and I know you’re counting on me.

If you’ve been a reader of this blog over time, you know that I’ve often concluded these entries with the Tea Party slogan “Remember in November.”  Well, as a result of the election yesterday, this truly will be a November to Remember.

God bless you and your loved ones, and God bless the United States of America.
