A Quarter Million

In the United States Constitution is the requirement that every ten years, we count how many people we have in this country – the Census. We just did this last year, in 2010. (There are about 311 million of us.) Ohio increased its population, but at a slower rate than most other states. As a result, Ohio will lose some of its clout in the House of Representatives, going from the current 18 Congressional Districts down to 16. The only other state losing two seats is New York. A fair number of states lose one seat, some stayed the same, and the rest pick up seats. The total number remains at 435.

In Ohio, the state legislature in Columbus and the Governor by law determine how the new districts are reconfigured. The new Congressional Districts were just recently announced, and Governor Kasich signed them into law this week.

In the next Congressional elections (2012), people will vote according to the new districts. However, Members of Congress continue to represent and serve the people of the old districts until after the elections in 2012, and the new Congress is sworn in, in January 2013.

I intend to run a very aggressive, very issues-oriented race next year no matter who runs as my opponent. I have approximately a quarter million new people in my district, and I will work tirelessly to introduce myself to them, and get to know as many of them as possible.

In order to run this type of aggressive campaign, I’m in the process of raising the resources I’ll need to reach out to these new voters. The third quarter of this campaign cycle ends this Friday, September 30th, and I must report to the FEC (Federal Elections Commission) how much I’ve raised as of that date.

I would greatly appreciate your considering making a contribution, by Friday if at all possible. You can click here to make a secure online contribution, or you can mail it to Chabot for Congress, 3030 Harrison Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45211.

I really appreciate your help. See you next week.
