July is winding down and members of Congress will soon be limping back to their districts all over the country, touting their “accomplishments” thus far. So what has the Pelosi-Congress accomplished.
Well, first they passed a so-called economic stimulus package. President Obama had promised that if passed, it would create millions of new jobs and keep the nation’s unemployment rate under 8%. It passed, yet unemployment is over 9.5% and over 11% in Ohio, and still rising. Why? Rather than a true stimulus package, it was for the most part, a pork-filled payoff to Democratic special interest groups. The so-called “shovel-ready projects” weren’t so shovel-ready after all.
Then Congress passed the Pelosi-Obama budget which adds an additional $1.8 trillion to the deficit. Our children and our grandchildren will be paying this off in higher taxes and a lower standard of living for decades to come.
Next, the House passed the Cap and Trade (Cap and Tax) bill which is a massive new energy tax. If the Senate follows suit and passes this farce, it will make it even more expensive to heat or cool your home, drive your car, or buy anything. Jobs will be pushed overseas as China and India have said no way will they subject their economies to this environmental radicalism.
And next comes government control of 1/6th of our economy – healthcare. President Obama had promised that his healthcare reform would save money, but the Congressional Budget Office recently revealed that rather than save money, it would actually cost over $1 trillion. The plan originally was to try to shove healthcare through Pelosi’s House and Reid’s Senate before Congress left town, but the more the public learned about the plan, the less they liked it. The fate of this very flawed healthcare plan remains uncertain, but Congress should slow down, get it right, and ACTUALLY READ THE BILL!
So look for a Congressman near you to try to convince you this August that what America is seeing is “change that we can believe in.” Don’t believe it for a minute.
