“Dem’s Agenda Largely Undone”

While perusing the Cincinnati Enquirer the other day, a headline caught my eye which read “Dem’s Agenda Largely Undone.”  Now when one considers the nature of that agenda, one can only say “thank God.”  Because that agenda is a leftward march which is clearly not in the best interest of our country.

The article notes that one accomplishment (if you want to call it that) of the Obama Administration was passing the $787 billion so-called economic stimulus package.  Although the article didn’t go into the merits or failures of the package, I will.  It was a pork-filled disaster of a bill that Speaker Pelosi rammed through the House, and Reid through the Senate, without members of either house even having the time to read.  And when the economy turns around, it will be in spite of this boondoggle, not because of it.

The article then went on to list the Dem’s agenda which has not become law, stating “there are glaring holes in their to-do list.”

Healthcare reform is sited as Obama’s number one priority, yet “it has failed to pass either the House or Senate despite a now-expired Obama deadline.”  Of course more and more citizens would consider Congress’s failure to pass the Democrats’ healthcare bill as a good thing, especially if like me, you don’t trust the federal government to efficiently oversee approximately 17% more of our economy.  That’s why we’ve seen so many of our fellow citizens attending town hall meetings around the country this month to voice their views on this important issue.  Of course Nancy Pelosi considers this exercise of our Constitutional rights to be “un-American!”

The article next cited the global warming bill, or Cap and Trade (Cap and Tax).  This was another bill rammed through the House by Speaker Pelosi without giving members of Congress time to read the bill.  The bill is so bad that most of the pundits believe that even with the 60 of the 100 Senators now being Democrats, the bill has little chance of passing the Senate and becoming law.  Once again, “thank God!”

The article concludes by noting that a re-write of lending and investing laws aimed at avoiding a repeat of last year’s financial collapse as probably being a bridge too far.  When one considers the Obama Administration and the Pelosi Congress’s proclivities towards takeovers of the banking industry, the insurance industry, and then the auto industry, fewer and fewer people trust them to make common sense reforms.  More government, more spending, and higher taxes seem to be this Administration and this Congress’s knee-jerk solution to everything.

So after six months into the Obama/Pelosi Era, their agenda appears to be stymied.  As far as I’m concerned, that’s a good thing.  Congress should slow down and actually read the bills their liberal leadership throws in front of them and start acting like they’ve been sent to Washington to do what’s best for their country, not what’s best for their party.
