President Obama probably instinctively wants to blame it on the Crusades. Or the Spanish Inquisition. Or George Bush. Or John Boehner.
But 21 Christians being held hostage by an offshoot of the Muslim ISIS group were marched to a beach, and beheaded. 21.
This time the Christians were Egyptian Copts. Of course the Obama Administration couldn’t bring itself to call the Christians “Christians”, instead referring to them as merely “Egyptian citizens.” What a bunch of mealy-mouthed cowards.
The “Egyptian citizens” were being held hostage in Libya, by a group calling itself the Tripoli Province of the Islamic State. (I hope I haven’t offended anyone by saying “Islamic”, because after all, Mr. President, that’s what THEY CALL THEMSELVES.)
And to make it even clearer that they were specifically targeting Christians, the video documenting their savagery was titled “a message signed with blood to the Nation of the Cross.” And if that wasn’t clear enough, they warned “we will conquer Rome, by Allah’s permission.” (Nothing to do with religion here.)
Now granted, these radical Islamic barbarians kill innocent Muslims as well as Christians. And since the overwhelming majority of people in that part of the world are Muslims, there are undoubtedly more Muslims than Christians killed by ISIS and their ilk. But special attention is paid to exterminating the stain of Christianity when ISIS, al Qaeda, the Taliban, or Boko Haram take over a region or nation. Convert or die. Torture, beheadings, even crucifixion are the order of the day.
I would submit that our clueless President’s policies are directly responsible for much of the chaos and turmoil we see around the globe today. Let’s start with Libya, where the 21 Christians were just murdered by the ISIS affiliate. President Obama, following the advice of then Secretary of State (and future Democratic nominee for President) Hillary Clinton, joined in the bombing campaign which resulted in the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, who had ruled Libya for over 40 years. Admittedly, good riddance, but then President Obama implemented his lead-from-behind policy, and let chaos reign there, resulting in a U.S. ambassador and three other brave Americans being murdered in Benghazi (with the accompanying cover-up), and Islamic terrorist groups have now taken over most of the country. Result, another country that’s now an enemy of America, and 21 beheaded Christians (for starters.)
In Iraq, at considerable cost in American blood and treasure, a brutal dictator and enemy of the United States (Saddam Hussein), was overthrown and replaced with a U.S.-allied government. Rather than leave a relatively small American troop presence there, as virtually every sane expert was urging, Barack Obama decided to pull ALL U.S. troops out, ultimately resulting in the rise of ISIS. When combined with first drawing red lines in Syria, and then ignoring them, ISIS now controls much of both Iraq and Syria, and threatens our allies throughout the region, and will soon threaten us here at home.
Not long ago (on September 10th last year to be exact) President Obama pointed to Yemen as a success story for his foreign policy. “This strategy… is one that we have successfully pursued in Yemen…” Just last week, the Yemeni pro-American government was toppled by the pro-Iranian Houthis, and the U.S. and other Western embassies were unceremoniously closed for the safety of the personnel there. U.S. Marines everywhere were particularly incensed that the Marines at the U.S. embassy were ordered to abandon their weapons, since they wouldn’t be allowed to take them on a commercial flight out of the country, and these weapons and embassy vehicles, later shown to be in the hands of the Houthi rebels.
Marines pride themselves in caring for their weapons, and Marine recruits must memorize the “Rifleman’s Code” which includes the following:
With respect to Iran, just when U.S. and our allies’ sanctions policies were starting to have the desired effect, the Obama Administration decided to throw the mullahs of Iran a lifeline, loosened the sanctions, and entered into endless and futile negotiations with Iran. Everyone, but Barack Obama and his Secretary of State John Kerry, seems to realize that negotiating with Iran is a fool’s errand, and that we’ll ultimately end up with no deal, or a really bad one. President Obama appears more worried about an assertive Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu than he does a nuclear armed Iran.
And Barack Obama has allowed himself to be pushed around by Vladimir Putin even more embarrassingly than George Bush did. Putin has already annexed Crimea, and now threatens more and more of eastern Ukraine.
Since the U.S. has done nothing, France and Germany just brokered a deal with Putin, which will last until Putin decides it’s no longer in his interest (maybe a few weeks or so.) But rather than give the Ukrainians what they really need, defensive weapons, Barack Obama has offered them blankets, MREs (meals ready to eat), and psychological counselors (in case they feel depressed before they are killed by the Russians.)
The Obama Administration’s entire foreign policy is just embarrassing. The United States is the most powerful nation the world has ever known. But you’d never know it. Barack Obama acts like he’s the leader of Sweden, or Switzerland, not the United States of America. It’s amateur hour at the White House.
We better pick a leader who can lead next time around. I just hope the United States and the world, can survive until then.
