Merry Christmas

With the end of the year, Americans now enter the holiday season full of joyful family reunions and Christmas and Chanukah gift giving.  We count our blessings and resolve to do better in the coming year.

Like any year, 2012 has been full of achievements and setbacks.  And I am truly humbled by the confidence you have shown in me as I was re-elected to represent the First District in the U.S. House of Representatives.   And the Chabot family has been blessed in many other ways, especially by the birth of our first grandson, Reed.

For too many, this holiday season will be bittersweet.  I am confident Americans will once again step forward during this holiday season with both prayers and generosity.  I would encourage everyone to do what they can to help others. There are many worthy charitable organizations locally and nationally who could use your support, whether it’s supporting the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program, donating to the Salvation Army, helping the USO provide support for service members deployed overseas and their families, or contributing to your local house of worship.

I have heard from a number of people who wish to help the families of Newtown, Connecticut following the horrific events at Shady Hook Elementary School. You may wish to contact Newtown Youth and Family Services, 15 Berkshire Rd. Sandy Hook, CT 06482.  You can find their website at http://www.newtownyouthandfamilyservices.org/donate.php.

I very much appreciate the time you take to read my blog each week.  The new year will bring plenty of opportunities to debate public policy.  I look forward to sharing my ideas with you as we work for a better future for our community, our state, and our country.

Merry Christmas, and see you next week.
