Plot Thickens in the Healthcare Debate

Liberals in Washington who have been pushing for so-called healthcare reform often use Canada as the model to which we in the United States should aspire.  So how is Canada’s healthcare system doing?  Well according to the incoming President of the Canadian Medical Association, Dr. Anne Doig, “… the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize.” She went on to say “Canadians have to understand that the system that we have right now – if it keeps on going without change – is not sustainable.”  So much for using Canada as a model.

In reaction to Obamacare, we’ve seen thousands of citizens attend town hall meetings across the land, most voicing their opposition.  So how have these average Americans exercising their right of free speech been received by Congressional leaders?  Well, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi says they are “un-American.”  Majority Leader Harry Reid says they are “evil mongers.”  And most recently, Democratic Congressman Jerry Nadler of New York labels them “fascists.”  So much for civil discourse.

Then we discover that the White House Director of New Media Macon Phillips has urged their supporters to, in effect, spy on their fellow citizens’ emails and report them to the White House (enemies list?).  Senator John Cornyn when he discovered this outrage, sent a letter to the White House urging that the President “cease this program immediately.”  He went on to say in the letter “I am not aware of any precedent for a President asking American citizens to report their fellow citizens to the White House for pure political speech that is deemed “fishy” or otherwise inimical to the White House’s political interests.  I can only imagine the level of justifiable outrage had your predecessor asked Americans to forward emails critical of his policies to the White House.”  Senator Cornyn is exactly right.  Can you imagine the field day the mainstream press would have had if President Bush had tried this?

And finally, we learn (but only on the Fox Network since other media outlets have chosen to ignore the story) that the White House has been spamming people from former campaign and now White House aide David Axelrod urging them to support Obamacare.  Fox News Reporter Major Garrett said several people had contacted him saying they had received the uninvited and unwelcome emails.  The White House was unable (or unwilling) to explain how this happened.  Right.
