Slaughter of the Innocents

The 15-year-old boy instinctively put up his right arm in self-defense when he was about to be shot.  The bullet blew off four fingers, but his reflexive act probably saved his life.

The radical Islamic attacker who had almost killed him, moved on with his fellow terrorists to maim, kill, and burn alive other children.

These Jihadists brought cans of fuel along with them, and set aflame a school and dormitories where innocent children lay sleeping.  As the children attempted to flee the flames, the terrorists mowed them down with AK-47s.

The death toll was 30; all students, except for one teacher.  Why were they targeted?  Because they were receiving a “modern education”, in a Western school (Christian by the way), in the Northern part of Nigeria.

They were slaughtered by a radical Muslim group known as Boko Haram, which means “Western education is sacrilege.”  These people believe that nothing worth learning has taken place since Mohamed walked the earth back in the 7th century.

They fit right in with the mindset shared by the September 11th attackers (both the 2001 bin Laden group and the 2012 Benghazi attackers), the Ft. Hood shooter (although of course the Obama Administration still insists on referring to his attack as “workplace violence”), the Chechen brothers who killed and maimed innocents at the Boston Marathon, and on and on.

The radical Muslim Jihadist attack on the school children in Nigeria wasn’t Boko Haram’s first school attack.  Dozens of schools have been burned since 2010.  In fact Islamist militants opened fire on another school in Nigeria just last month while children were taking an exam.  Nine students were killed.  And one week prior to that, another school was the target, and seven students died.

It seems that despicable violence and carnage committed by radical Islamic Jihadists is now just taken for granted.  The current Administration even refuses to acknowledge that we are any longer engaged in a war against terrorism – we might offend someone.

You may have heard about these horrific attacks in the press, but probably not.  The most recent attack which killed 30 I read about in the Enquirer this past Sunday – on page A18.

Although this attack took place on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, and not in the United States, it should remind us that radical Islamic Jihadists are in it for the long term.  And we ignore them at our own risk.
