Speaker Pelosi and Gitmo

The principle responsibility of the federal government is to keep the American people safe.  Having a place to keep those who have attempted to kill Americans and destroy this nation is critical, and preferably not next door to you.  Thus, Guantanamo Bay.

And with the most hardened cases, tougher techniques have on occasion been used – enhanced interrogation methods – some like Speaker Nancy Pelosi prefer the term “torture.”  She has for quite some time now been criticizing the previous Bush administration and the CIA for using such tactics.  Well, it turns out that as the lead Democrat on the Intelligence Committee she had been briefed by the CIA on these enhanced interrogation methods such as waterboarding early on, all the way back in 2002.  And she said – exactly nothing.

The logical question is, if she now says that such techniques were so offensive and un-American and anyone who condoned such methods should be prosecuted, why didn’t she raise a stink when she could have done something about it.  Good question.  And she now has the audacity to say that our CIA folks are lying and that she was never briefed.  Well, the records say otherwise.  The reason this flap is so significant is that Nancy Pelosi is not just any member of Congress, she is the Speaker of the House; the most powerful member of that august body.  Rather than working to make the American people safer, Congress under Speaker Pelosi  is busy attacking the very organizations (CIA) that were set up to ensure our safety.
