What a Mess

Where to start?  So many disturbing, perplexing, annoying, outrageous and otherwise unsettling things are coming to us via the Obama Administration and the Pelosi Congress that it’s difficult to know where to begin.

Perhaps the worst decision to come out of this Administration so far was the announcement that the mastermind of the worst attack on this country in its 233 year history, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, would be brought before a civilian court in New York City rather than before a military tribunal.  This is so wrong at so many levels.  Why put the judge, the prosecutor, the jury and their families, and the public at such risk?  Could all or parts of the case be thrown out because this murderous terrorist wasn’t read his Miranda rights?  His lawyers through the discovery process will be able to acquire information which could compromise our nation’s sources and methods of gathering intelligence used to protect us from future attacks.  And who would make up a “jury of his peers?”  Fellow terrorists?  This spectacle-of-a-trial will give this terrorist and his cohorts a forum to spew their anti-American venom, and recruit new Jihadi terrorists who aspire to commit future acts of terror against the Great Satan.  What this illustrates is that the Obama Administration and Congressional leaders have reverted to a pre-911 mentality, where there’s no longer a war on terror; it’s just law enforcement and give the terrorists the same rights every American citizen would have under the Constitution (even though Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his fellow terrorists seek to destroy America and everything it stands for.)

Next, President Obama is off to Asia to meet with, among others, America’s banker, China.  Spending in Washington is so out of control that our dependence on China to buy US bonds to support the spending makes us more and more dependent on China.  In order to avoid offending them, Obama recently dissed Tibet’s Dalai Lama.  And while visiting another one of our bankers, Japan, President Obama nearly strained his back bowing to the Emperor of Japan (just as he did with the Saudi King a while back).  What Obama evidently doesn’t realize is that American Presidents don’t bow to any foreign leader.  After all, the essence of America is that all men are supposed to stand equal, and as Americans are entitled to look any man, even a king, straight in the eye.  We’re Americans, we don’t bow to anyone.

And about that spending.  The Obama/Pelosi/Reid triumvirate, whose policies resulted in a $1.4 trillion deficit last fiscal year, (three and a half times higher than the worst previous year in history) is actually increasing the out-of-control deficit spending.  In October the first month of this new fiscal year, deficit spending came in at $176 billion.  If you project that out over a twelve month period, that would mean we’re on course to have a $2+ trillion deficit for this fiscal year.  Obama’s Budget Director Peter Orszag has said that the Administration intends to give the ballooning deficit more attention next year, and their answer to the problem according to Orszag is “new revenue-producing measures” (HIGHER TAXES).  Let me give you a clue, Peter.  DON’T RAISE TAXES, CUT SPENDING!

And remember the so-called economic stimulus package which when passed was going to keep national unemployment rates under 8%?  (They’re up to 10.2%)  A website, Recovery.gov, was set up to track the (alleged) number of jobs created (and take credit for them).  This was done under the direction of Vice President Joe Biden.  It turns out that far fewer jobs have been created than were promised.  The Administration tries to count (with a straight face, but it’s difficult) “saved” jobs, but that’s virtually impossible so some have accused the Administration of basically making up the numbers.  Well, it turns out it’s even worse than that.  Thousands of jobs were reportedly created in the 4th Congressional District of Utah, the 99th District of North Dakota, the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th Districts of New Mexico, and hundreds more.  The problem is, none of these Congressional Districts even exist – and neither do the jobs.  30 jobs were actually claimed to be created by the purchase of a lawn mower!  A very embarrassed Vice President Biden admitted that apparently the Administration’s statistics were “flawed” and that “further updates and corrections are going to be needed.”  As part of that update, the Administration already had to cut 60 thousand jobs they claimed had been created by the stimulus package, as the jobs were completely fabricated.

The bottom line is, the so-called economic stimulus package has been a disaster.  $787 billion and what do we have to show for it?  Not much.  And now they apparently either cooked the books to make the numbers look better than they are, or they’re so incompetent that they have no idea what’s really happening out there.  The American people deserve better.
