What the Hell’s Going On?

As a Republican (and a conservative) it can feel like you’re on a rollercoaster ride this year. Our nominee’s up; he’s down; he’s up again; he’s down. Hillary Clinton, not unexpectedly, got a bump from the Democrat Convention, just as Donald Trump got from the Republican Convention the week before. However, in my view, the biased coverage by virtually all the press (other than FOX News) has been so one-sided, that it’s a wonder how any Republican, at least at the presidential level, ever wins anything.

1

Take the difference in the coverage, of the parents who lost sons in the defense of our country, for example. We’ve been inundated with Khizr Khan’s scathing attack on Donald Trump, and Trump’s attempt to defend himself from that attack. Trump has been particularly pummeled for his response on what “sacrifice” he’s made when compared to the Khans’. Trump’s response: “I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very, hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.” (A better response would have been something along the lines of, “any sacrifice I’ve made pales in comparison to a family who’s lost a son or daughter in the defense of our country” and just left it at that.)

2

The press has participated in a feeding frenzy of criticism against Trump on his answer. Yet they’ve virtually, no, absolutely ignored Pat Smith, the mother of Sean Smith, killed at Benghazi, whom Hillary Clinton lied to about a video being responsible for her son’s death, and by God, Hillary would make sure that video-maker was brought to justice. (The other families also verified that Hillary lied to them.) Now as far as I’m concerned, this is far more egregious than Donald Trump’s admittedly less-than-optimal way of defending himself, and at the same time honoring the Khans’ son.

3

Another outrage, is that the mainstream press has spent so much time piling on Trump, that they’ve totally ignored Hillary Clinton’s further lying about her email transgressions. On this past weekend’s FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace, Clinton blatantly lied again when she said “Director Comey said that my answers were truthful, and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people…” Well, we KNOW that’s not true. In fact, the Washington Post Fact Checker (not a conservative outfit) gave Hillary “4 Pinocchios”, which is their worst score on the “are you telling the truth” scale. Hillary Clinton flunked, because as usual, she’s lying. But the mainstream press mentions it one time, if that, then refocuses the bulk of their time and effort on making Donald Trump (or whoever the Republican is for that matter) look as bad as possible.

4

The biased coverage is so bad in fact, that a recent study showed that ABC, NBC, and CBS News spent not twice, or three times, but 50 times the amount of time covering the death of the Khans’ son (basically blamed on Donald Trump), than they did on the death of Pat Smith’s son (which she basically blames on Hillary Clinton.) Incredible, but true.

5

Something else that got far too little coverage in the press recently, was the Bureau of Economic Analysis’ report, which showed that the American economy is in trouble. President Obama, in his highly praised (by the media) speech at the Democratic Convention last week, bragged about how strong the American economy is, because of his policies. Hillary echoed his boasting about how great things are, and said she’d continue his economic policies.

6

Then the next day, the awful numbers came out. The annual GDP rate was barely over 1%. That’s terrible, and could forecast a recession in the near future.

7

That is what Trump should focus on – what Obama has done to handcuff the American economy, with overregulation, wasteful government spending, taxes that are too high and a tax code that’s too complicated. How a vote for Trump is a vote for change, and what that change would look like. How a vote for Hillary is a vote for more of the same, even though Bill Clinton dubiously called Hillary “the best darn change-maker I ever met in my entire life.” (Guess it depends on what the definition of is is.)

8

On the foreign policy front, even though the Democrats are trying to portray Donald Trump as unprepared, or naïve, or even dangerous, Hillary Clinton’s time as Secretary of State was a total disaster – from the laughable Russian reset, to Benghazi, to the rise of ISIS. And nothing better illustrated how truly unserious the current Democratic Party is, when it comes to protecting this country, than the fact that 61 speakers came to the podium at the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia on the first night, and not one, not one, mentioned ISIS or terrorism.

9

God help us if we have to endure another Democrat in the White House with the current threats we face. Let’s all do our part to make sure that doesn’t happen.
