A Time for Healing

The House of Representatives, which is now, of course, under the complete control of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats, voted last night to call for Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office. The vote was 223-205, and I voted against the measure.

Today, the House will be voting, yet again, to impeach President Trump. Last time it was for a Ukrainian phone call. This time for allegedly inciting the attack last week on the Capitol Building. I will be voting against this impeachment measure as well. Of course since Democrats are in the majority, all three of the above-mentioned measures either have, or will, pass.

Here are my thoughts on all of this. What happened last Wednesday at the Capitol, never should have happened. The actions of those who attempted to breach the Capitol Building, and then ultimately did so, are inexcusable. Lawlessness and violence are never acceptable, whichever side of the political divide one may fall. Those who were involved should be, and will be, identified and prosecuted.

But the Democrats’ attempt to invoke the 25th Amendment, and to once again impeach President Trump (a little more than a week before he’ll be leaving office anyway) are in my opinion, misguided.

Rather than contribute to healing a divided nation, the Democrats’ effort will likely drive us even further apart. It’s time for us to tone down the political rhetoric; to work together to solve the problems that face our nation. It’s time for us to put aside our differences, and find common ground.  After all, we’re all Americans.
