Last week Joe Biden tested positive for COVID. Press coverage was overall very sympathetic, emphasizing that he had only “mild symptoms.”
Biden’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, got only softball questions about her boss’s COVID diagnosis. She announced not to worry, Biden “would isolate at the White House” and continue to “carry out all of his duties fully” while he was recovering. We were informed that Biden was fully-vaccinated and double-boosted and that he was taking the anti-viral drug Paxlovid.
There were even members of the press who said they would keep President Biden in their prayers.
My, how that contrasts with the way the press covered it when President Trump tested positive for COVID! The Washington Post back then crowed “epidemiologists just wanna vomit…because Trump removed his mask at the White House.” Well, Trump was speaking to the press corps from the White House balcony and socially distancing from reporters, just as Joe Biden spoke from the same White House balcony to reporters without a mask on after testing positive and the press said nary a word. The Guardian railed “after Donald Trump‘s deranged balcony address, we are all gasping together.” Remember, both spoke from the same White House balcony after testing positive!
CNN’s Don Lemon criticized President Trump for getting COVID in the first place, saying it was Trump’s “own dereliction that was to blame.” And CNN’s Brian Stelter compared President Trump to “a drunk driver.”
And if that’s not bad enough, here’s what Joe Biden had to say when Donald Trump tested positive for COVID: “He (Trump) didn’t take enough precautions to protect himself or others.” Well Joe, what’s that say about you?
Two final points. Although Biden never acknowledges it, it was President Trump through “Operation Warp Speed” who was responsible for developing multiple vaccines for COVID, in record time. And secondly, more people in the US have died from COVID under Biden’s watch than under Trump’s, and that’s despite having multiple vaccines now available that didn’t exist yet during Trump’s time in office.
The mainstream press truly hated Donald Trump, and still does, and the double standard that exists between the coverage of the Trump and Biden administrations, is truly breathtaking.
