It says in the Bible (paraphrasing) “you reap what you sow.” For some time now, Democrats have sown defunding the police; the installation of liberal, soft-on-crime prosecutors; anti-police rhetoric; an end to cash bail; taking away military equipment from police departments, ending qualified immunity, and on and on. And Democrats have gotten their way in city after city all across America.
Now we’re reaping the results of what Democrats have sown. Crime rates are skyrocketing across America. Homicides in Chicago are up 5%. In New York City, up 13%. In Los Angeles, up 22%. In Philadelphia, up 37%. In Atlanta, up 58%. And in Portland, up a whopping 533%. And in the Queen City, Cincinnati Ohio, the homicide rate was the highest in any year in our history.
And the sad truth is that Democrats are in complete control in all these cities. They have Democrat mayors. They have Democrat-controlled city councils. And we now have a Democrat president, and both the House and the Senate are Democrat-controlled. And in Hamilton County, we also have all three commissioners who are Democrats, and the sheriff is also a Democrat.
Despite the lock Democrats now have, they are desperately trying to shift the blame for defunding the police from themselves onto Republicans! I know, it’s absurd, but here’s the way their cynical argument goes.
After the many bipartisan COVID rescue bills that were passed since the pandemic‘s outbreak about a year-and-a-half ago, the Democrats came up with a $2 trillion completely partisan so-called COVID relief bill earlier this year. Only 9% of the spending in the bill went for actual COVID relief. The rest was pork, and paying people not to go back to work, and bailing out blue states for bad decisions, etc. And some went to cities and states to do whatever-the-heck they wanted to do with it. Dems argue that since some of the money that went to cities could have been spent for police if cities decided to do so, therefore Republicans voted to defund police.
This is obviously a ridiculous argument, but Democrats are clutching at straws to avoid legitimate criticism for their own actions.
Will it work? Well, they do have the mainstream press on their side as usual. But even they seem skeptical of the Democrats’ brazen disingenuousness. They have the bully pulpit of the White House. But the White House is busy spinning so many disastrous policies – like the crisis at the border, and ransomware attacks, and skyrocketing gas prices, and the impending bloodbath in Afghanistan, that they haven’t been particularly effective in spinning this nonsense.
I just don’t think they can pull it off. The American people are too smart for that. They know “defund the police” is a liberal, left-wing, “squad” thing. Democrats own it. Unfortunately, we’re all suffering for it.
