According to a recent poll, voters now trust Republicans over Democrats when it comes to handling crime in this country, by a whopping 22%. And it’s no wonder that they feel this way, when you consider just how out-of-touch Democrats are when it comes to keeping the American people safe from the criminal element in this nation.
It started with progressives (liberals) pushing an agenda of so-called “criminal justice reform.” An important part of it (largely funded by billionaire leftist George Soros) was getting soft-on-crime prosecutors and judges elected or appointed across America, especially in blue states and cities. We’ve seen the results in California for example, where high-profile liberal prosecutors won’t prosecute theft crimes under $1000 or so. The results are flash mobs, consisting of dozens of criminals, showing up at stores, and emptying out the shelves in minutes, and terrifying both legitimate customers, and salespeople who are merely trying to do honest work and support their families.
We’ve also seen the results of the liberals’ coddling of criminals in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where a criminal with a lengthy rap sheet was let out on a ridiculously low bond of only $1000 after trying to run over the mother of his child. Then, while he was out on this absurdly low bond, he was free to run over and kill and maim innocent victims at a Thanksgiving day parade, including an eight-year-old boy.
And the Democrats’ response to the chaos and looting in cities across America two summers back was to blame the police, and defund them. Major cities across the country (all run by Democrats) took away millions of dollars from law-enforcement. Murder and lawlessness has gone up in virtually every one of them.

In the US House of Representatives (where I’m at), Democrats’ response to the chaos in the streets was to take away “qualified immunity” from the police. This allows law-enforcement officers to be sued personally for any physical confrontations with the public. Let’s face it, the nature of the job sometimes results in physical confrontations, and if an officer’s family’s home, retirement account, and college fund for the kids, is going to be vulnerable to a bunch of hungry trial lawyers, who is ever going to want to be a cop?
Some Democrats of course have been more reckless than others. “The squad” for example have, in my opinion, being particularly irresponsible in their efforts. Rashida Tlaib goes so far as to want to abolish federal prisons all together, and release everybody over the next 10 years. These prisoners are often the worst of the worst, and she wants to just release them back onto the streets. Just nuts!
Okay, there IS some good news. Not every community has fallen for this dangerous liberal groupthink. For example, here in the First Congressional District of Ohio, which I have the honor of representing, George Soros and his kind have been unsuccessful in getting their fellow travelers into place. In Hamilton County Joe Deters fought off The Left in the last election, and he’s one of the most law and order, safety-conscious prosecutors in the country. And in Warren County, we are blessed to have prosecutor David Fornshell upholding the law with the highest degree of professionalism. Both of these exemplary prosecutors have my respect, and will continue to have my support.

The bottom line is this – there are many reasons Democrats are likely to take a shellacking in the midterm elections: inflation, chaos at the border, CRT, Afghanistan, etc. But their dropping the ball on keeping American streets safe, will be at or near the top of the list.
