PolitiFact is Anything But

Sick of all the ads yet? I know I am. DeWine beating up on Cordray. Cordray beating up on DeWine. Sherrod Brown slandering Renacci. (We haven’t seen much of Renacci fighting back against Brown yet, at least down here in our part of the state, but I’m sure it’s coming.) And of course my opponent, Aftab Pureval, and his allies are hitting me, and my allies and I are hitting back. Makes your head spin.

What I thought I’d focus on this week is a particularly devious way The Left is attacking Conservatives like myself all over the country this election cycle. Out of the 435 congressional races this year, there are about 60 or so the Democrats are targeting, and mine is one of them. Most Republicans in these races, like myself, felt that the American people deserved better health care coverage than ObamaCare, and voted to repeal it, and replace it with a better, more affordable, health care plan called the American Health Care Act. Although both ObamaCare and the American Health Care Act required pre-existing condition coverage, Democrats and their left-wing allies are running ads attacking Republicans like me for allegedly voting to take away pre-existing condition coverage. It’s a lie, but It’s being repeated so often, with so much money behind it, that it’s inevitable that some people will believe it.

Then there’s a second step to the Democrats’ smear campaign. They get a so-called independent fact-checker to claim that the Democrats are telling the truth about health care, specifically about pre-existing condition coverage, and Republicans are not. Then local media outlets (like the Cincinnati Enquirer) buy their story hook-line-and-sinker, and convey that information to the public.

The hole in all this, is that the so-called independent fact checker, PolitiFact, isn’t really independent at all, and has a bias against Republicans, and for Democrats. A few examples.

President Obama famously misled the public when he said, referring to ObamaCare,“ If you like your health insurance, you can keep your health insurance.” PolitiFact on six different occasions determined that THIS STATEMENT WAS TRUE! When, over time, it became apparent to virtually everyone that this statement was NOT true, PolitiFact reversed its opinion, and went so far as to declare that Obama’s statement was “the lie of the year” in 2013!

Further proof of PolitiFact’s bias in favor of Democrats is the fact that they are twice as likely to determine that Democrats are telling the truth than they are Republicans. (Now I guess one could argue that Democrats are twice as honest as Republicans, but having dealt with both myself over the years, I sure wouldn’t come to that conclusion.)

And finally, if you’re not yet convinced of the inherent bias of PolitiFact, let me share this final bit of information with you. The three politicians they have found to be the most truthful are Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Bernie Sanders. And the three political figures they have found to be the least truthful are Donald Trump (not unexpectedly), Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi (at least they got one right.) Now how in the world they can find Hillary Clinton to be one of the most truthful public figures in America is beyond me. Unless, of course, one comes to the logical conclusion that PolitiFact is biased in favor of Democrats, and against Republicans.

Let me conclude with this – I need your help. Oh no, you’re saying to yourself. Not again, Steve. Don’t ask for another campaign contribution.

But I have to. In a few days (September 30th to be exact) it will be the end of the third quarter. And I, and every other congressional candidate, have to report what we’ve raised over the last quarter. Please help me to have a good one. As you know, I’m in a tough battle this year, and we have to raise resources to make sure The Left under Nancy Pelosi, isn’t running the House again after this election cycle. If they are, they’ll try to reverse the progress we’ve made with President Trump and a Republican Congress – progress like a strong economy and significant job growth. It’ll be impeachment, disruption, and turmoil, non-stop.

We can’t let that happen. Please help me to withstand the assaults from The Left, and get our message out by (Clicking Here), or by sending a check to Chabot for Congress at 220 Findlay St. Cincinnati OH, 45202. I really appreciate your help. Thank you.

See you next week.
