Should Biden Step Down?

Let’s roll back the clock. It’s 1974. President Richard Nixon has just spent the last two years embroiled in the Watergate scandal. The House Judiciary Committee has just voted to pass articles of impeachment against him. Pursuant to a US Supreme Court decision, he’s had to release the “smoking gun” tape, which proves that he’s conspired with the FBI and CIA in the cover-up. And now three of his closest allies in the Senate have told him that, not only will the House of Representatives soon vote to impeach him, but that there are sufficient votes in the Senate now to remove him from office. So Nixon decides to step aside, to resign from office, rather than be impeached. After all, he at least has an able and experienced vice president, Gerald Ford, to lead the nation in his place.

Now here we are in 2021. We have a President who (in my opinion) has made monumental mistakes. First of all, at our southern border, rather than “faithfully execute the laws” of our nation, he has undermined the law, and allowed record numbers of illegal aliens to flood into the country.

Biden has further undermined our country by reversing our progress towards energy independence. One of his very first actions was to shut down the Keystone Pipeline; but give the green light to the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline from Russia into Europe. He’s made it harder and harder to drill for oil and gas here in the United States. But he’s now begging OPEC and Russia to raise their oil and gas output. Total incompetence.

And his latest blunder in Afghanistan may be the worst foreign policy catastrophe in American history. And he’s lied over and over to the American people in the aftermath of the debacle. Biden said there would be no helicopters lifting people off the roof of the embassy in Afghanistan; and then there were. Biden said there were “no circumstances where American citizens couldn’t get through to the airport.” Totally not true. And he said there had been no criticism from our allies across the globe. Not true – our closest ally, Great Britain, voted to censure Biden, their current Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, was strongly critical, and former Prime Minister Tony Blair called Biden‘s Afghanistan blunder “imbecilic.”

Biden blames everyone but himself for the disaster. He blamed the Trump administration for coming up with the Afghan pullout in the first place. Of course he has reversed every other Trump policy – why not this one? And he blamed the Afghan troops for not fighting, when they’ve suffered over 3000 casualties in the last year alone fighting the Taliban. Biden‘s credibility just continues to plummet.

Here’s the problem. Even if Biden would step aside, look who would replace him. Kamala Harris. And her record thus far on things Biden has tasked her with is anything but impressive. Biden put her in charge of the southern border crisis (a crisis of this administration‘s own making.) They took a border which was more secure than ever before because of the common sense measures of the previous administration, and screwed it all up. Kamala Harris went around inanely mumbling about “root causes” and did – absolutely nothing. The situation is now worse than it’s ever been.

And Biden put Harris in charge of “voting rights.” The problem is, Democrats‘ definition of voting rights, is allowing as many people as possible, to vote as many times as they want, whether they are legal or not (and whether they even exist or not.) Simple vote security measures, like photo IDs, are condemned as “racist” or “voter suppression.” Vice-President Harris has failed here too.

I’d say Harris has been a disappointment, but then for anyone who actually looked at her track record prior to becoming vice president (the most liberal senator in a liberal- packed Senate for example) we weren’t expecting all that much. The bottom line is, if Biden steps down, we get Harris.

Let’s face it, for all Biden‘s failures, he’s not going to step aside voluntarily. And a Democrat-controlled House, and Democrat-controlled Senate, aren’t going to impeach him.

So we are just going to have to take back the House and Senate in 2022, and beat Biden/Harris in 2024 (some would say, again.)
