It started with Chuck Schumer and his incendiary remarks on the steps of the Supreme Court. “I want to tell you, (Justice) Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.” Conservatives denounced the outrageously irresponsible threat from the most powerful person in the United States Senate.
But the mainstream press, of course, gave Schumer a pass. That was just Schumer being Schumer. Much as the head-scratching comments of Joe Biden usually get sloughed off as just Biden being Biden.
Now one of the crazies out there nearly did it. A 26-year-old California man showed up outside Justice Kavanaugh‘s home in the middle of the night armed with a gun, ammunition, a knife, pepper spray, and zip ties, and nearly killed a sitting United States Supreme Court Justice. Why? Because he wanted to stop Roe vs Wade from being overturned.
The mainstream press has largely downplayed this shocking story. Had it been a guy with a MAGA hat in front of Justice Kagan or Sotomayor or Breyer’s house, I’m guessing the media coverage would have been a bit more extensive. I’m just sayin’…
It’s worth noting that left-wing pro-abortion protesters have been marching outside conservative justices homes off and on for weeks now. Marching outside the Supreme Court building itself is one thing. It’s a time-honored form of protest. But marching outside a Supreme Court Justice’s house is not only rude, it’s illegal. According to Title 18, section 1507 of the US Code, it is “illegal to picket or parade… near a residence of a judge with the intent of influencing that judge’s decision.”
Unfortunately, Joe Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, has thus far chosen to ignore the illegality.
Left-wing groups have also seen fit to publish the home addresses of conservative Supreme Court Justices, and even the school that Justice Amy Coney Barrett‘s children attend.
Not only are our Supreme Court Justices being targeted by The Left, but pro-life groups are too. Last week a pro-life pregnancy center was firebombed in Buffalo. Prior to that, pro-life organizations in Madison, Wisconsin and in Oregon were attacked. Even churches have been vandalized and destroyed. One message these left-wing terrorists have left at multiple scenes is “if abortions aren’t safe, then you aren’t either.” Abortion protest leaders are warning that if Roe goes down, this will be a “Summer of Rage.”
What’s Congress doing about the threat to Supreme Court judges? The Senate unanimously passed a bill to beef up security for Supreme Court justices a month ago. But Speaker Pelosi‘s attitude in the House was “we’ll get around to it when we get around to it.” After a month of hemming and hawing, the House finally passed the same legislation just yesterday. In my opinion, the delay was inexcusable.
Look, I’ve been a strong critic of the US Supreme Court on many occasions over the years. But violence is never acceptable. And the homes and children of justices should always be off-limits. And the President of United States and the Justice Department should be doing their jobs to preserve the integrity and the security of the Supreme Court.
