The Democrats’ “Election Reform Bill” is Anything But

The Democrats in the House last week passed a bill on what they consider to be the most important issue facing our country. How do we know they think it’s the most important thing? Because it was given the priority number, H.R. 1 (House Rule 1).

They gave it a nice name – the “For the People Act of 2021.” Well, it must be a good thing, right – it’s for the people. It’s also referred to as the Election Reform Bill. Unfortunately, it’s the furthest thing from reform. It’s actually a recipe for more election fraud, and an attempt to give the Democrats an even firmer grip over the House, the Senate, and the Presidency.

The bill passed in the House on a straight party line vote – Democrats voted for it, Republicans voted against it. It’s not clear whether the Democrats will throw out the filibuster rule to ram it through the Senate yet. Fortunately, it’s not eligible for reconciliation like the $1.9 trillion so-called COVID Relief Bill (of which only 9% is actually COVID relief.) Here’s what this terrible so-called election reform bill would actually do.

Your tax dollars would now go to candidates you don’t like or support to pay for their campaigns. How is that possible? Well, for every dollar that AOC, or Bernie Sanders, or Sherrod Brown raise, they would get six of your hard earned tax dollars to go for their campaigns. Isn’t that special? No, it’s nuts. But it would be the law under H.R 1.

It would forbid states from requiring voter identification at the polls. Many states, like Ohio, have for years now required a photo ID, like a drivers license, when people vote – to make sure they are who they say they are. Well, that would be illegal from now on. Making it much more likely that rampant voter fraud would happen. Again, this is just nuts. Unless you want more voter fraud.

This awful bill would also require that every state allow, and encourage, mail-in balloting, no excuses necessary. (That worked out so well this past election cycle.) Of course it was done because there was a pandemic, and many felt it wasn’t safe to leave home and go vote. Under this Democrat bill, it will make mail-in voting the rule, rather than the exception.

One of the most egregious election fraud schemes in recent years to rear its ugly head has been ballot harvesting. Most notably used in California, paid political operatives go door-to-door collecting ballots which have been mass mailed out, and then somebody votes them and turns them in. This practice is outlawed in most states. Under H.R. 1, not only would it not be outlawed, it would become the norm.

And in most states, felons can’t vote. It’s currently up to the state. Under H.R 1, that changes. States could no longer make that determination. Felons vote.

And if all that’s not enough – if we haven’t completely destroyed any semblance of election security, let’s do this. Let’s make mandatory, for every state, same-day voter registration. Yes, H.R. 1 does that too.

There are other bad things in this bill as well, but in my opinion, those are the worst. After an election year like the one we just experienced, one would hope that we would’ve seen an effort towards true election reform. Unfortunately, what we’ve seen by the Democrats, who now completely control the process in Washington, is just the opposite. Rather than reform, we’ve seen a reversal of what election security measures currently existed. A weakening of voter safeguards. And more unfair advantages for Democrats.

America deserves better.
