The Missing Emails

The American press has one of the most significant political scandals in decades, staring them in the face, and they’re all but ignoring it.  It’s been established, beyond any reasonable doubt, that the IRS improperly targeted conservative groups prior to the 2012 election, in an attempt (largely successful) to unfairly and illegally silence these conservative groups, and thus aid in the reelection of Barack Obama.  It happened.  They did it.  It worked.

The remaining question – how high up did this corruption go?  Was it just some rogue agents in an out-of-the-way place (Cincinnati!) acting on their own?  Or did it go up the ladder, perhaps all the way to the top?

How to find out?  Examine the emails between the person running the effort to silence the conservative groups, Lois Lerner, and the folks above her.  Including those in the White House.

Well, those emails, more than two years’ worth, have mysteriously disappeared.  Try using that excuse if the IRS ever comes knocking on your door, wanting back records, information, receipts, whatever.  Good luck with that.

VARVEL MISSING EMAILS

Two years’ worth of emails.  Gone.  Vanished into thin air.  Supposedly her computer crashed.  Conveniently, just 10 days after Congressman Dave Camp, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee investigating the matter, first inquired about whether the IRS was engaged in targeting conservative groups.  Just a coincidence.

Two years’ worth of emails.  I’m old enough to remember another President who faced impeachment, largely because of an 18 ½ MINUTE missing section of an audio tape (Richard Nixon resigned from office when he realized he couldn’t weather the scandal.)  And, oh by the way, one of the Articles of Impeachment against Nixon was that he “endeavored” to use the IRS to target his political opponents.  The Obama Administration didn’t “endeavor” to do it, they actually did it.

What’s the difference between the outrage back then, and the seeming indifference today?  Coverage of the Nixon scandal by the mainstream press back then, ABC, NBC, CBS, The New York Times, The Washington Post (Woodward and Bernstein, Deep Throat, etc.) was intense.  The coverage by the press today, outside Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and talk radio, has been a collective yawn.

Result?  They may just get away with it.

Of course, not only is this Administration abusing the powers of the office in many ways, but the policies they have promoted are, in my view, bad for America.  Excessive spending has pushed our national debt to $17.5 trillion, Obamacare is ruining what was the best healthcare system on the globe, and our national defense is being weakened while much of the world is aflame.

The most liberal President in memory, is not only “fundamentally transforming the country” but destroying it.

What to do?  We need strong conservatives in Congress engaged in the battle against corruption, wasteful spending, and dangerous liberal policies.

You may recall that there were two confirmations recently of my conservative credentials.  National Journal, after examining the voting records of all 435 Members of the House of Representatives, announced that I had the most conservative voting record in Congress.  Then just a few weeks ago, the non-partisan fiscal watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste announced that I had the best record in the House for voting against wasteful spending – 99%.  (I’ll try harder next time!)

As a reader of my blog, you’re probably supportive of my conservative voting record, but to groups who don’t share our philosophy, it makes me a target.  What an accomplishment if you could knock off the most conservative Member of Congress!

Please help me to keep that from happening.  Just five days from now, June 30th, is the end of this fiscal quarter, and all Congressional candidates must file a report showing how much they’ve raised this quarter.

Would you help me to be prepared to fight off any challenges, by making a secure online contribution today, by clicking here, or you can mail a contribution to Steve Chabot for Congress, 632 Vine Street, Suite 805, Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Sorry to bug you about money, but it is a necessary evil to winning and holding my Congressional seat.  I appreciate your understanding.

See you next week.  (I won’t ask for money!)
