Two Weeks Out – So How’s the Election Looking?

A lot better than it looked two months ago, or two weeks ago for that matter. I think things are trending in the right direction. The Democrats’ advantage on the generic ballot has narrowed significantly – from double digits to low single digits. And in the so-called battleground congressional districts, the ones that are hotly contested this time around (like mine), and will decide which party controls the House after the election, the generic ballot is essentially a dead heat.

There are several reasons for this narrowing. Dems started out with an advantage, because they’ve been energized since Trump was elected President, as they hate him (or his policies, or both) so much. The Republican base and right-leaning Independents are also finally getting energized for one of a number of reasons: they like Trump/Republican accomplishments, like the tax cuts and reduced regulations which have led to our strong economic recovery; they hate the way Kavanaugh was treated; they hate the incivility coming from The Left; they are outraged by the caravan making its way to our southern border; or they fear for our country if Nancy Pelosi is in charge again (or all of the above.)

My sense is that our race is headed in the right direction too. We’re up in the polls, although by a narrower margin than in recent years, which is not surprising since my opponent and his left-wing allies have spent millions and millions of dollars trashing me on TV about things which just aren’t true. Since my opponent has failed to make much headway against me, it’s apparently frustrating both him and his supporters, and they’ve begun to take desperate measures.

I shared with you in last week’s blog a photo of one of my signs they’d stolen, torn in half, written a hate message on the back, and attached to a pole. (Here it is again.)

Well, I came across another one over the weekend, this one with a pro Issue 1 message (which would weaken Ohio’s drug laws.) to my knowledge, my opponent still refuses to take a position on this important legislation, despite the fact that the Hamilton County sheriff, prosecutor and coroner recently came out against Issue 1. (I already have.)

Another vandalized Chabot for Congress yard sign.

And I’m sure you’re aware that my opponent Aftab Pureval, is currently under investigation by both the Ohio Election Commission, as well as the Federal Election Commission, for serious violations of the law, which could lead to his being fined, or even jailed. Well, they’ve broken the law again.

Last Saturday, I and Ohio State Representative Bill Blessing, and Harrison City Councilwoman Cindy Abrams, and a dozen or so volunteers, met in a parking lot to go door to door for my and other Republican campaigns. After the three of us gave short speeches, one of the dozen or so people there came up to me, said he was a member of the UC College Republicans, and peppered me with questions about my debate with Aftab Pureval last week, and what was my strategy for the upcoming debate (which is this evening.) He was taping our conversation on his phone. One of my campaign people got suspicious, followed him over to his car, and as he sped off, we saw that he had an Aftab bumper sticker on the back of his car. He was in photos taken at the Harrison event, so we were able to track him directly back to the Aftab campaign. What this spy, and the Aftab Pureval campaign did, is not only deceitful, but as the Enquirer reported, it MAY WELL BE A CRIME.  Yet another sleazy, slimy, illegal, move by my opponent’s campaign – to try and get an unfair (and most importantly, illegal) advantage in tonight’s debate.

However, they are good at one thing – raising money. We had our best quarter recently when we raised $433,000 during July, August, and September. Pretty good, until we found out that Mr. Pureval’s campaign raised $1.6 million during the same quarter – more than three times what we raised. (That’s why you see more of his TV ads than ours – but ours are better!)

And if I could just bug you this one last time before the election – HELP! I could really use your support for our final push between now and election day-Tuesday, November 6th. You can CLICK HERE, or send a check to Chabot for Congress, 220 Findlay St. Cincinnati Ohio 45202.

Thanks in advance. God bless you, and your family. And God bless America.
