Yes, I’m Running

To the extent that people are thinking about the upcoming 2020 election, most are probably thinking about which Democrat will be taking on Donald Trump. And that’s perfectly understandable. It’s certainly the most important race under consideration, and will have the greatest impact on our country.

But all 435 congressional districts, and one third of the Senate, will also be up for grabs. And this week I’d like to focus on one of those seats in particular – mine.

As I’m sure you know, I was targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and a bunch of other big spending liberal groups last time, and they did their best to take me out. We think about $8 million was spent by these liberal groups and by my opponent, compared to about half that amount that was spent by my campaign and our allies.

It was a tough year for Congressional Republicans nationwide. Republican voters turned out about as they normally do in non-presidential election years, pretty well, but nothing to write home about. Unfortunately the Democrat base was incredibly energized (because they hate Trump so much) and they turned out in droves. The result was the Democrats picked up about 40 Republican seats, took over the House of Representatives, and Nancy Pelosi became Speaker again.

Well, I’m on the Democrat hit list once again. The DCCC announced that they’re targeting 33 of the approximately 200 Republican held seats, and once again I made the list. There are 12 Republican held congressional districts in Ohio, and mine is the only one the Democrats are targeting, probably because Trump won my seat by his narrowest margin in Ohio.

By the way, yes, I’m running for re-election to Congress. The DCCC put me on their “Retirement Watch List” during the last election cycle. And apparently they or others are trying to peddle rumors that I’m considering retiring again this time around. They may wish it, but in the words of former SNL comedian Dana Carvey, impersonating then-president George H. W. Bush, “na ga da” (not gonna do it.)

I’m running. And I’m confident that I’ll prevail against whomever the Democrats put up against me, no matter how much money they spend. It is truly an honor to represent the people of the First Congressional District of Ohio, and I’m proud to say that the University of Virginia and Vanderbilt have done another study of Congress, and have once again found me to be in the top 10 most effective Republican Members of Congress.

Finally, I’d like to ask for your help. All candidates for Congress have to report to the Federal Elections Commission how much they’ve raised by the end of each quarter. This first quarter ends March 31st, so in about two weeks.

I’d greatly appreciate your support in any amount that’s comfortable. You can contribute by clicking here, or you can send it to: Steve Chabot for Congress, 220 Findlay St, Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Thank you in advance for your support, and I’ll see you next week.
