My Second Open Letter to Donald Trump

Donald, as I’ve said a number of times over the past few months, if you’re to have any chance of defeating Hillary Clinton in November, you’ve got to step up your game. During the primary process, you got away with saying a number of really dumb things – some would say that not following the normal rules of political correctness even benefited you. Maybe so.

1

But your latest faux pas is a real doozy. You’ve accused the federal judge who’s handling the Trump U case, of “having an inherent conflict of interest”, merely because “he is of Mexican heritage.” I know you want to build a wall and all (so do I), but the guy was born in Indiana. In this country, we’ve never held where an American citizen was born, or where their parents or their grandparents were born, against them. And we shouldn’t start now.

2

Besides, you should have settled this case long ago. As you know, it stems from your involvement in, what seems to me, one of those get-rich-quick deals – this one promising folks that they could learn the secrets of your success in real estate, for the rock bottom price of only $1,500 (to $35,000 for the Gold Elite program.) Lawsuits have been filed against you in New York and California. It’s not clear that legally you’ve done anything wrong, but it looks, well it looks terrible. And as a recovering lawyer myself, let me give you some free legal advice – settle the damn case, and apologize to the judge.

3

That being said, whereas the mainstream press is all over your Trump U flap, they’re not surprisingly all but ignoring far greater Clinton scandals. For example, Laureate Education, a for-profit college under criminal investigation, funneled over $16 million to Bill Clinton, at the same time the State Department, under none other than Hillary Clinton, shoveled $55 million to the so-called college’s founder, a guy named Douglas Becker. (There are George Soros fingerprints all over this deal too.) According to reports, “unprepared students from impoverished nations” were preyed upon, and lured in by millions of dollars spent on “aggressive telemarketing, billboards, and flashy internet banner ads.” Sound familiar?

4

And as you know, Donald, the Clinton Foundation scandals go far beyond corruption with just one college. Even a cursory review of the inner workings of the Clinton Foundation reveal troubling facts. Even the Obama Administration recognized the inherent conflict of interest issues with respect to the Clinton Foundation, and therefore recommended a ban on all contributions to the Foundation from foreign nations. The Clintons violated that ban time and time again, and accepted millions and millions of dollars from governments like Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and United Arab Emirates.

5

It’s not just foreign governments that gave millions of questionable dollars to the Clinton Foundation, apparently to buy access to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and potentially from future President Hillary Clinton. It’s also huge corporations (the true enemy of all things good, according to Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren and Barack Obama and sometimes Hillary Clinton). Corporations like ExxonMobil, Citigroup, Pfizer, GE, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, McDonald’s, Walmart, and on and on. All told, Clinton interests have received a shocking $2 billion, maybe more, and all with nothing expected in return. Right.

6

So look, Donald, it’s pretty clear to me, that when it comes to ripping off the public, you’re a piker compared to Hillary and Bill Clinton. The difference is, the mainstream press will use every resource available to it, to dig into and expose, everything you’ve ever done, and everything you’ve ever said, or will say, to make you look bad. But with the Clintons, they’ll yawn, make excuses, ignore, and even defend them – that’s just the way it is.

7

Donald, I know it’s not fair. Nobody said it would be. You’ve just got to stay focused on what you’ll do – to make America great again. How you intend to get the economy moving – get Americans back to work. How you’ll cut waste in the government – and what is worth saving, like Social Security, and how you’ll do it. And how you intend to make sure that Americans feel, and are, safe again – whether it’s from illegal immigration, or from ISIS.

8

Don’t worry about what country a judge’s parents came from. And much as I hate to quote Hillary Clinton, “What difference at this point does it make?”
