North Korea Going Nuclear / Obama’s Choice for Supreme Court

In this week’s blog, I’d like to discuss two unrelated but important events.

First, North Korea seems bound and determined to move forward with its nuclear weapons program whether South Korea, the UN, or the United States likes it or not.  Although roundly condemned by the international community, North Korea set off another underground nuclear device, more powerful than the first one tested back in 2006.  They then followed up by firing a series of missiles, and of course blamed the United States as being the aggressor.

These unfortunate, but not unexpected events, makes it clear why it’s so important that the United States moves forward with our defense missile shield program so we would have the ability to knock down a nuclear-tipped missile from North Korea, Iran, or elsewhere, should one be headed our way in the future.  Unfortunately in the bloated pork-filled budget passed by the Obama administration and the Pelosi Congress recently, the only place they could find any room to cut was in Defense, and specifically in our missile defense program.

The other big news this week is that President Obama has picked Sonia Sotomayor to replace liberal Justice David Souter who will be retiring from the Supreme Court.  There’s no question that the Administration’s pro-choice watchdogs will have thoroughly vetted Judge Sotomayor to make sure that abortion-on-demand is secure.  Souter was bad on that and many other issues, so in effect we’ll see one liberal replaced by another.  But what a missed opportunity!

It is often said that elections have consequences, and they sure do.  Rather than solid pro-life conservatives added to the court like Justice Roberts and Justice Alito, any opening on the Court will now be filled with dependable pro-choice liberals.  Elections have consequences.
